Remembering our roots from afar: Posted June 2011

My brother, Sergeant First Class (ret) Cliff, next to his Humvee that he personalized with our Lakeland Sr. High School, Lakeland, Fla. school letter.

My brother Cliff: on duty in Iraq, clearing the roads so US convoys could travel safely.

This is Sergeant First Class (ret) Cliff next to his Humvee that he personalized with our Lakeland Sr. High School, Lakeland, Fla. orange school letter with our mascot “Dreadnaught” above that. A Dreadnaught is a heavily armed battleship.

While Cliff was doing his job and making the Iraq roads safe for the U.S. Military convoys to travel . His team and many around him were hit by many IED’s that littered almost every roadway. The danger was especially high in the area that Cliff and his men were concentrated around the Baghdad airport.

During the time Cliff was in Baghdad Courtney was stationed in Afghanistan and in charge of transportation and the convoys that Cliff was so diligently protecting from the many dangers that lay in their path.

Cliff is as kind a man you would ever meet and a gentle soul, however, he is also the toughest, speed adrenaline junkie, motorcycle riding dude I know. He is really a unique combination of a guy that makes him magnetic to be around.

I still remember coming home from college (Auburn), back to my hometown of Lakeland, Fla. and all the kids being at the house. I’d love to go riding on Cliff’s motorcycle with him—it wasn’t so good for having pretty hair with the helmet and all…especially that night we went up to Friday’s and all our friends were there . Ha!

If I were in the military….he would be the guy I would want leading my team and looking out for me.
